The four big continents inhabited by many castes are known as Bhadra, Bharata, Western Ketumala (i.e. Ketumala to the western side) and the NorthernKuru. They are the abodes of meritorious people. O Brahmana, this earth, in the shape of a lotus, and divided into four continents and many sub- continents, has thus been described by me. mountains, forests, and groves is called Padma (lotus-shaped) . It is very extensive.
